What our guests say…

We had a fantastic stay during September. We were lucky with the weather, even if it was a little too hot at times. When we arrived we were warmly greeted and shown to our rooms. Everything was very clean with lots of space to spread out. The kitchen was well stocked and had near enough everything we needed, we cooked nearly every night. Bathroom is a good size with a good shower and water pressure. The first evening the hosts made us all home made pizza in the home made pizza oven! Lovely evening sitting out with the other guests under canvas, drinking wine and eating pizza. Perfect. Great location for sketching/drawing/painting too. The location is remote, pretty much as “off grid” as you can get, although there is wifi if you want. No TV though – fantastic 🙂 A week away from the world. You do have to drive everywhere to get groceries and the like, although the hosts do offer to pick up bread and pastries in the morning which is just great! Cats, chickens, horses and their dog wander happily around the spacious compound. At night you can sit out and watch the sunset over the hills whilst listening out for the various animal sounds.

Being in the middle of nowhere and having virtually no artificial light, allows for the most clear view of the stars we have seen in a long time. Defo’ bring a pair of binoculars or telescope if you have one! Everything is a bit of a drive though, touristy places and the shops, so be prepared, you can’t just wander down to the shop and back easily. I took my bike and it was great for serious cycling. There doesn’t seem to be any flat roads anywhere though, it can get very hot and the French shops like to close just when you are running out of water. Our hosts also took us canoeing which was a fab experience. I don”t think we have seen so many kingfishers in our lifetime to the amount we saw on one trip down the river. Downsides? Probably just the remoteness, but that is one of the upsides too! It might not be for everyone, but we really landed lucky with our stay there. It was just what we wanted and needed. Thank you.

Cute apartment in a farm / campground owned by a Dutch family. We slept well and enjoyed the cozy fire in the wood stove! The view was gorgeous, location peaceful.
